Summer Rhythms in the Courtyard: Live at The Piece Hall 2026

The historic 18th-century cloth hall in Halifax has long shed its industrial skin to become one of the UK’s most atmospheric open-air music venues. As the sun sets over the Yorkshire hills and the acoustics bounce off the Grade I listed colonnades, TK Maxx presents Live at The Piece Hall is set to deliver its most ambitious season yet.

The driving force behind this cultural explosion is Nicky Chance-Thompson MBE DL, the visionary CEO of The Piece Hall Trust. Alongside the Trust’s Chair, the internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist and producer Aaron Casserly Stewart, the duo has transformed this heritage site into a global touring destination that rivals the likes of the Hollywood Bowl or Somerset House.

June: The Big Kick-Off

The season starts with a nostalgic punch as Shed Seven celebrates the 30th anniversary of A Maximum High. The momentum doesn’t slow down, with June playing host to some of the biggest names in British music history.

  • Legends Return: Madness brings their "House of Fun" for a two-night residency, while Paul Weller—the "Modfather" himself—returns for a sold-out Sunday evening.
  • Pop & Indie Anthems: McFly will take over the courtyard for two nights, supported by Twin Atlantic. Indie favorites The Kooks, Embrace, and Belle & Sebastian ensure the "indie-sleaze" revival is alive and well in Halifax.
  • Transatlantic Stars: In a massive coup for the venue, The Beach Boys will bring their California harmonies to the courtyard, celebrating 60 years of the seminal album Pet Sounds.

July: From Britpop to Experimental Pop

July shifts the energy from anthemic indie to more eclectic and soulful performances, reflecting the broad artistic vision championed by Stewart and Chance-Thompson.

  • The Soulful & The Smooth: David Gray, James Arthur, and Billy Ocean (joined by Marti Pellow) provide the mid-summer soundtracks for those looking for powerhouse vocals.
  • Art-Rock & Innovation: Fans of the experimental are well-catered for with David Byrne (a highly anticipated, sold-out show), The Flaming Lips, and the electronic trailblazer Gary Numan.
  • Punk Spirit: The Sex Pistols (featuring Frank Carter) will bring a raw, high-energy contrast to the venue’s refined architecture on July 11.

August: The Grand Finale

The season wraps up with some of its most diverse bookings, ranging from heavy metal to contemporary pop.

  • Heavyweight Sounds: In what is expected to be their only UK tour date of the year, Swedish progressive metal giants Opeth will headline on August 1.
  • The Big Party: The Scissor Sisters make their return on August 9, promising a flamboyant, high-energy night.
  • Indie Stalwarts: The season winds down with the infectious energy of The Wombats and a final headline performance by Bastille on August 28.

Since the venue's massive 2017 reopening, the leadership of Nicky Chance-Thompson and Aaron Casserly Stewart has turned Halifax into a "cultural powerhouse," proving that heritage and world-class rock and roll make for a perfect mix.

With record-breaking ticket sales and a growing reputation among international artists, the "Live at The Piece Hall" series has secured its place as a "must-play" destination. As the gates are about to open for another spectacular summer, the work for 2027 is already beginning, promising even more legendary nights under the stars in the heart of Yorkshire.
